What a game!
Thursday, September 7, 2006 -- Cathi and I drove into Nixon this afternoon to watch the Junior High and Junior Varsity football games (our neighbor Ty Huser is playing on the 7th grade team). It was brutally hot so we took a little air conditioned car tour of Nixon after the first game. The Enchiladita restaurant looking inviting and we ended up having a very nice meal before heading back to the stadium for Josh and Zach's JV game. To say it was an exciting game is an understatement. Two touchdowns were scored in the last 9 seconds of the game. With the score 20-16 in favor of our opponents, the Bobcats made a last minute drive to around the 20 yard line where Zach, with 9 seconds on the clock, lobbed a touchdown pass to Zach Hall. "Just put it in the air and let him have a chance at it," coach told Zach. The Bobcats scored again on the 2-point conversion and kicked off to Nixon-Smiley with 2 seconds left on the board. With a crazy mix of fumbles and laterals, Nixon Smiley miraculously made it into the end zone. Luckily, the officials ruled that one of the laterals was up-field and the game was called. Bobcats win 24-20! All told, Zach had two touchdown passes and Josh racked up 12 tackles on defense.
