If it weren't for bad luck...
Thursday, April 5, 2007 -- Disaster struck in the 5th inning. Zach had a no-hitter going against undefeated Odem when one of their batters hit a two-run homer. That put the Bobcats behind 3-2 and, before the inning was over, the Owls extended the lead to 5-2 on a combination of hits and fielding errors. Coach Gonzales says Zach is the "hard luck kid," having lost all three of the games in which he pitched while giving up just a handful of hits between the three of them.
The loss was an added insult to Zach's injury. While we were bottle-feeding his lambs prior to the game, Zach managed to gash his "pitching hand" on the gate while trying to corral the mama lamb. He wouldn't let me bandage it; preferring to show off the bloody results to his teammates prior to game-time.
