Annoying the children, one day at a time.

Hot and wired

Saturday, May 10, 2008 -- "How long will it take," asked Angie as I prepared to disconnect Mom's power and rewire her home into the new utility pole. "About 45 minutes or so," I replied. Many hours and an 8 foot trench later (plus Angie's wild goose chase to Beeville for a missing part), I flipped the breaker and was pleasantly surprised by a lack of sparks and/or flame. Thank you Mr. Morey for your excellent advice on avoiding electrocution!

Back at the house, my computer had this to say:

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT - NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CORPUS CHRISTI TX
526 PM CDT SAT MAY 10 2008
..HEAT INDEX VALUES BETWEEN 105 AND 109 DEGREES LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING...

That explains the smell and why my shirt and pants are completely drenched.

I didn't bother to change clothes before joining Angie & Johnny out at their cabin. Guests included, Ronnie, Bubba & Linda, Kathy & Steve, Grandma, and Will & Kara, Hannah, and William. I asked William how he was doing in Little League and Will and Bubba related a story about a spectacular on-the-run catch he made in left field. Later, Johnny and Bubba got into a prolonged discussion about fist fighting and who among their acquaintances could or could not get whipped by one or the other of them. If you get in a fight with Johnny, try to aim your forehead at his fist. He hates that. If you're fighting Bubba, place both your hands over your nose cause that's where he's aiming.
